Guitar Hero for Our Heroes!

Mrs. Conley's homebase collected spare change from students in the lunchroom during the month of December to try and buy something fun for the troops. We raised over $350 dollars!

After much deliberation, we decided to buy a Playstation 2, Guitar Hero 2 and 3 and a guitar. We shipped it out today! The game is being sent to Camp Liberty in Iraq. It will be in the MWR http://www.armymwr.com/ where many soldiers will be able to use it in their free time!

Thank you to everyone who donated money and helped make our project such a success!

Our first carnival was a great success!

Mrs. Foellmer's homebase students, assisted by Miss Smith's homebase, provided a fun experience for 5 of the 6th grade homebases. Games such as the Bean Bag Toss, Bozo Buckets, and Spin the Wheel, were played and prizes awarded and a great time was had by all.
Of course, we can't forget the purpose of our carnival. We raised money to buy phone cards for the troops and "Hug a Hero" dolls for their children.
Hopefully, day 2 of our carnival, just before spring break, will be just as successful!

We did it!

Miss Smith's Homebase filled 4 large boxes full of hygiene products, including toothpaste, soaps, shampoos, etc! These supplies are sent to children in Afghanistan affected by the war. Good Job to all of you!

A Carnival is Coming!

Our homebase is busily preparing for a carnival! We are going to be setting up games for the 6th graders to play for a minimal fee to raise money for those serving us in the armed forces. There will be prizes, and we promise a great time for all!! If anyone has any small items (new or used) to donate for prizes, we would be happy to have them! Obviously, we have a lot of planning and work to do before our carnival is a reality, so check back here for further information. We plan on using the funds we collect to purchase phone cards for the troops, and "daddy dolls" for children of the troops, to hug and keep daddy close while he's away.

Funds For Fun

Mrs. Conley's homebase is raising money to buy an X-box 360 and accessories for the soldiers. We are collecting at lunch and there is a collection box in Mrs. Conley's room. We are asking for any extra change that the students might have from their snack or in their pockets. Our goal is $600 and we will collect this week and at any other sports games that the school has within the week.-Bridget A.

Mrs. Foellmer's Homebase Update

My homebase has been working hard to research all sorts of military service projects. We have divided into several groups and will be presenting our research and selecting our first project after we return from Thanksgiving. One project we are considering is creating wikis (one for the boys and one for the girls) to gather service projects from all over the United States into one location. "A wiki is a type of computer software that allows users to easily create, edit and link web pages. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites ...". (from wikipedia.org) Wikis evolve, therefore, our wikis would be something we would continue to work on throughout the remainder of the year.

Thank you postcards for our soldiers!

To kick off the service project idea of supporting our troops, Miss Lepley's Homebase sent postcards to service men and women through the wesite, letssaythanks.com. Our next idea is to collect reading materials just like Mr. Safranski's Homebase, so that the soldiers will have some means of entertainment while serving their country.
